Grandpa Loren (Blog 1)

Okay, so since I’ve decided to tell the story of my grandfather, I thought it’d be a good idea to give a little background information on the man himself.  The following are facts and figures I pulled from my dad via email so it’s nothing specific.

Loren A Cunningham was born to Adolphus and Carrie May Cunningham on July 26, 1916 (yes, I said 1916) in Des Moines, Iowa.  He was the youngest of seven children and believe it or not, his oldest sister Vera was actually born in the 1800’s!  Its hard to fathom as I sit here in the year twenty-ten that I have a great aunt who was born two centuries ago.  His older brother Kenneth, who was born in 1907, was the man my father was named after who, therefore, I am named after.

Something else I found very interesting was the fact that the “A” in my grandfather’s name was the extent of his middle name.  His parents didn’t give him a full middle name, just the letter “A.”

Grandpa Loren married my grandmother, Darlyne Luhman, in Glendale, California on May 16, 1942.  Unfortunately, I never met my grandmother because she died of cancer very shortly before I was born.  I have always wondered what she was like but now that I think about it, I’ve never really asked much about her.  I hope this project allows me to do so.

Grandpa Loren died on march 3, 2002 in our home in Alexandria, Virginia.  I remember the day like it was yesterday.  It was a very eventful day in the history of my life but I believe the story will serve best for the final post.

Like your story idea. Pretty crazy how much of a time difference there is and not just that, but location. Starting out in Iowa and ending up in Va. keep it up
